Comments: Looking to say hi to anybody who remembers me from those years.It wasn't all bad but I didn't use anything much I learned in the Navy in my trucking carreer later.If there were do overs and there isn't of course I'd done things differently.But I bet alot of folks here would say that.Never had time to even do any of those courses to move up in rate.Training PO was MIA the whole time.I wanted a carreer there but they were too busy discouraging a person to do that.The BS was it really needed? |

Comments: Finally found the Son of Robert "HOOB" Hoobler who I served with in the 50s. He was a good friend of mine and it felt great sharing some pictures & stories with his son Bobby. Hoob died in 1999 and was buried at sea by the Navy out of Norfolk, Va. A fitting end to a sailor who devoted 33 years to the service of his country? May God bless him and his family. Comments: Looking at this web site and various youtube vids have brought back a ton of memories for me. I had a great hitch from 88' to 92' . The Ageless Warrior was my first ship and I will never forget her. I was able to have my Dad join us during the Tiger Cruise from Halifax to Norfolk. This was Coral Sea's very last leg in her storied career and I am really proud to have had the chance to be part of her history. Hope all is well with all of you and never forget the days when we were " Haze gray and under way". |

Comments: JP4&5 If you worked in V4 or the flight deck you were exposed...if you had a berthing compartment with sounding tubes in it..you were exposed...if you drank the water after the ship sucked it into the evaps...(After stripping the fuel tanks) you were exposed... If you want to find out what was in this fuel just go on the internet and look yourself....2 of the chemicals were Pesticides and Benzene...look it up...Fuelman |

Comments: I just visited the Fisher House here in Illinois. Every service man should be aware of the place. Family, care givers,and love ones can stay at one of the 56 Fisher Houses through out the USA and 2 in Germany at no cost when a service man is in the VA hospital as a patient. Please get the word out. I was told some people have stayed for 6 days up to seven months for free. The family has to live 50 miles or more away from the VA hospital to qualify. No other requirements! Feel free to contact me for more information etc. |

website. Just thought I would pass this on. It's FREE too. I was stationed at NAAS Port Isabel, Texas from Jan 1960 to Jul 61 when it was closed down. I was then transferred to NAS, Corpus Christi, Texas until Aug 1962. Aboard the Coral Sea from Aug 62 until discharge in Aug 63. In about 2008 (using above website)I found my old Admin Officer from my Port Isabel days. He was then in his 80's but remembered me and all the office staff. We ended up talking on the phone for an hour. It really was a nice visit. After about 48 years! Wishing all success in their searches too.... |
